ORCHARDS
Unique Family Heritage is
Featured in the Shawnee Hills Orchard Trail
Today's travelers are looking for destinations, which
offer safety and the wholesome surroundings of one's
own home. There's no better match for those interests than the new Shawnee
Hills Orchard Trail! The trail's five orchards, located in Jackson and Union Counties,
have all been owned by their respective families for several generations. Having
celebrated their 100-year anniversary, Rendleman Orchards
was designated an Illinois
Centennial Farm in 1973! Others aren't far behind and it's that special family
atmosphere that keeps travelers coming back season after season! Each of the
orchards offers something a little bit unique. At Mileur Orchard, just west of Murphysboro, you'll find
white peaches, nectarines and white nectarines. Carbondale's Lipe Orchards
originally opened in the 1880's
and they have a produce stand just south of Carbondale on U.S. Highway 51, where
the locals flock for summer and fall favorites! Rendleman Orchards,
located just north of Alto Pass on State
Route 127, has a wonderful market, which features excellent produce, all
kinds of country kitchen necessities like pickles, jams, mixes and cookbooks.
Look for the red barn!. Flamm Orchards has a wonderful
"Fruits and Cream" stand, where folks enjoy in-season strawberry shortcake,
peach cobbler and apple dumplings.
