African
American Museum of Southern Illinois
The African American Museum of
Southern Illinois highlights local African-American heroes and heroines such as
the first black police officer in the area. Its permanent exhibits include
collections of African art and slave artifacts. Rotating displays have included
the Underground Railroad message quilts and local art work. Call for information

Ava Craft Center
This center in Ava is open from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and has 10 antique looms where anyone can
learn to weave for free. Weavers are charged only for the warp they use as they
weave rugs. Hand-woven and braided rugs and placemats are sold at the center,
